창세기 (Genesis)
32-33
1 야곱이 길을 가는데 하나님의 사자들이 그를 만난지라
1 Jacob also went on his way, and the angels of God met him.
2 야곱이 그들을 볼 때에 이르기를 이는 하나님의 군대라 하고 그 땅 이름을 마하나임이라 하였더라
2 When Jacob saw them, he said, "This is the camp of God!" So he named that place Mahanaim.
3 야곱이 세일 땅 에돔 들에 있는 형 에서에게로 자기보다 앞서 사자들을 보내며
3 Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.
4 그들에게 명령하여 이르되 너희는 내 주 에서에게 이같이 말하라 주의 종 야곱이 이같이 말하기를 내가 라반과 함께 거류하며 지금까지 머물러 있었사오며
4 He instructed them: "This is what you are to say to my master Esau: `Your servant Jacob says, I have been staying with Laban and have remained there till now.
5 내게 소와 나귀와 양 떼와 노비가 있으므로 사람을 보내어 내 주께 알리고 내 주께 은혜 받기를 원하나이다 하라 하였더니
5 I have cattle and donkeys, sheep and goats, menservants and maidservants. Now I am sending this message to my lord, that I may find favor in your eyes.` "
6 사자들이 야곱에게 돌아와 이르되 우리가 주인의 형 에서에게 이른즉 그가 사백 명을 거느리고 주인을 만나려고 오더이다
6 When the messengers returned to Jacob, they said, "We went to your brother Esau, and now he is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him."
7 야곱이 심히 두렵고 답답하여 자기와 함께 한 동행자와 양과 소와 낙타를 두 떼로 나누고
7 In great fear and distress Jacob divided the people who were with him into two groups, and the flocks and herds and camels as well.
8 이르되 에서가 와서 한 떼를 치면 남은 한 떼는 피하리라 하고
8 He thought, "If Esau comes and attacks one group, the group that is left may escape."
9 야곱이 또 이르되 내 조부 아브라함의 하나님, 내 아버지 이삭의 하나님 여호와여 주께서 전에 내게 명하시기를 네 고향, 네 족속에게로 돌아가라 내가 네게 은혜를 베풀리라 하셨나이다
9 Then Jacob prayed, "O God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, O LORD, who said to me, `Go back to your country and your relatives, and I will make you prosper,`
10 나는 주께서 주의 종에게 베푸신 모든 은총과 모든 진실하심을 조금도 감당할 수 없사오나 내가 내 지팡이만 가지고 이 요단을 건넜더니 지금은 두 떼나 이루었나이다
10 I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness you have shown your servant. I had only my staff when I crossed this Jordan, but now I have become two groups.
11 내가 주께 간구하오니 내 형의 손에서, 에서의 손에서 나를 건져내시옵소서 내가 그를 두려워함은 그가 와서 나와 내 처자들을 칠까 겁이 나기 때문이니이다
11 Save me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid he will come and attack me, and also the mothers with their children.
12 주께서 말씀하시기를 내가 반드시 네게 은혜를 베풀어 네 씨로 바다의 셀 수 없는 모래와 같이 많게 하리라 하셨나이다
12 But you have said, `I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.` "
13 야곱이 거기서 밤을 지내고 그 소유 중에서 형 에서를 위하여 예물을 택하니
13 He spent the night there, and from what he had with him he selected a gift for his brother Esau:
14 암염소가 이백이요 숫염소가 이십이요 암양이 이백이요 숫양이 이십이요
14 two hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams,
15 젖 나는 낙타 삼십과 그 새끼요 암소가 사십이요 황소가 열이요 암나귀가 이십이요 그 새끼 나귀가 열이라
15 thirty female camels with their young, forty cows and ten bulls, and twenty female donkeys and ten male donkeys.
16 그것을 각각 떼로 나누어 종들의 손에 맡기고 그의 종에게 이르되 나보다 앞서 건너가서 각 떼로 거리를 두게 하라 하고
16 He put them in the care of his servants, each herd by itself, and said to his servants, "Go ahead of me, and keep some space between the herds."
17 그가 또 앞선 자에게 명령하여 이르되 내 형 에서가 너를 만나 묻기를 네가 누구의 사람이며 어디로 가느냐 네 앞의 것은 누구의 것이냐 하거든
17 He instructed the one in the lead: "When my brother Esau meets you and asks, `To whom do you belong, and where are you going, and who owns all these animals in front of you?`
18 대답하기를 주의 종 야곱의 것이요 자기 주 에서에게로 보내는 예물이오며 야곱도 우리 뒤에 있나이다 하라 하고
18 then you are to say, `They belong to your servant Jacob. They are a gift sent to my lord Esau, and he is coming behind us.` "
19 그 둘째와 셋째와 각 떼를 따라가는 자에게 명령하여 이르되 너희도 에서를 만나거든 곧 이같이 그에게 말하고
19 He also instructed the second, the third and all the others who followed the herds: "You are to say the same thing to Esau when you meet him.
20 또 너희는 말하기를 주의 종 야곱이 우리 뒤에 있다 하라 하니 이는 야곱이 말하기를 내가 내 앞에 보내는 예물로 형의 감정을 푼 후에 대면하면 형이 혹시 나를 받아 주리라 함이었더라
20 And be sure to say, `Your servant Jacob is coming behind us.` " For he thought, "I will pacify him with these gifts I am sending on ahead; later, when I see him, perhaps he will receive me."
21 그 예물은 그에 앞서 보내고 그는 무리 가운데서 밤을 지내다가
21 So Jacob`s gifts went on ahead of him, but he himself spent the night in the camp.
22 밤에 일어나 두 아내와 두 여종과 열한 아들을 인도하여 얍복 나루를 건널새
22 That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two maidservants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok.
23 그들을 인도하여 시내를 건너가게 하며 그의 소유도 건너가게 하고
23 After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions.
24 야곱은 홀로 남았더니 어떤 사람이 날이 새도록 야곱과 씨름하다가
24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.
25 자기가 야곱을 이기지 못함을 보고 그가 야곱의 허벅지 관절을 치매 야곱의 허벅지 관절이 그 사람과 씨름할 때에 어긋났더라
25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob`s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man.
26 그가 이르되 날이 새려하니 나로 가게 하라 야곱이 이르되 당신이 내게 축복하지 아니하면 가게 하지 아니하겠나이다
26 Then the man said, "Let me go, for it is daybreak." But Jacob replied, "I will not let you go unless you bless me."
27 그 사람이 그에게 이르되 네 이름이 무엇이냐 그가 이르되 야곱이니이다
27 The man asked him, "What is your name?" "Jacob," he answered.
28 그가 이르되 네 이름을 다시는 야곱이라 부를 것이 아니요 이스라엘이라 부를 것이니 이는 네가 하나님과 및 사람들과 겨루어 이겼음이니라
28 Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome."
29 야곱이 청하여 이르되 당신의 이름을 알려주소서 그 사람이 이르되 어찌하여 내 이름을 묻느냐 하고 거기서 야곱에게 축복한지라
29 Jacob said, "Please tell me your name." But he replied, "Why do you ask my name?" Then he blessed him there.
30 그러므로 야곱이 그 곳 이름을 브니엘이라 하였으니 그가 이르기를 내가 하나님과 대면하여 보았으나 내 생명이 보전되었다 함이더라
30 So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, "It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared."
31 그가 브니엘을 지날 때에 해가 돋았고 그의 허벅다리로 말미암아 절었더라
31 The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel, and he was limping because of his hip.
32 그 사람이 야곱의 허벅지 관절에 있는 둔부의 힘줄을 쳤으므로 이스라엘 사람들이 지금까지 허벅지 관절에 있는 둔부의 힘줄을 먹지 아니하더라
32 Therefore to this day the Israelites do not eat the tendon attached to the socket of the hip, because the socket of Jacob`s hip was touched near the tendon.
33장
1 야곱이 눈을 들어 보니 에서가 사백 명의 장정을 거느리고 오고 있는지라 그의 자식들을 나누어 레아와 라헬과 두 여종에게 맡기고
1 Jacob looked up and there was Esau, coming with his four hundred men; so he divided the children among Leah, Rachel and the two maidservants.
2 여종들과 그들의 자식들은 앞에 두고 레아와 그의 자식들은 다음에 두고 라헬과 요셉은 뒤에 두고
2 He put the maidservants and their children in front, Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph in the rear.
3 자기는 그들 앞에서 나아가되 몸을 일곱 번 땅에 굽히며 그의 형 에서에게 가까이 가니
3 He himself went on ahead and bowed down to the ground seven times as he approached his brother.
4 에서가 달려와서 그를 맞이하여 안고 목을 어긋맞추어 그와 입맞추고 서로 우니라
4 But Esau ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms around his neck and kissed him. And they wept.
5 에서가 눈을 들어 여인들과 자식들을 보고 묻되 너와 함께 한 이들은 누구냐 야곱이 이르되 하나님이 주의 종에게 은혜로 주신 자식들이니이다
5 Then Esau looked up and saw the women and children. "Who are these with you?" he asked. Jacob answered, "They are the children God has graciously given your servant."
6 그 때에 여종들이 그의 자식들과 더불어 나아와 절하고
6 Then the maidservants and their children approached and bowed down.
7 레아도 그의 자식들과 더불어 나아와 절하고 그 후에 요셉이 라헬과 더불어 나아와 절하니
7 Next, Leah and her children came and bowed down. Last of all came Joseph and Rachel, and they too bowed down.
8 에서가 또 이르되 내가 만난 바 이 모든 떼는 무슨 까닭이냐 야곱이 이르되 내 주께 은혜를 입으려 함이니이다
8 Esau asked, "What do you mean by all these droves I met?" "To find favor in your eyes, my lord," he said.
9 에서가 이르되 내 동생아 내게 있는 것이 족하니 네 소유는 네게 두라
9 But Esau said, "I already have plenty, my brother. Keep what you have for yourself."
10 야곱이 이르되 그렇지 아니하니이다 내가 형님의 눈앞에서 은혜를 입었사오면 청하건대 내 손에서 이 예물을 받으소서 내가 형님의 얼굴을 뵈온즉 하나님의 얼굴을 본 것 같사오며 형님도 나를 기뻐하심이니이다
10 No, please! said Jacob. "If I have found favor in your eyes, accept this gift from me. For to see your face is like seeing the face of God, now that you have received me favorably.
11 하나님이 내게 은혜를 베푸셨고 내 소유도 족하오니 청하건대 내가 형님께 드리는 예물을 받으소서 하고 그에게 강권하매 받으니라
11 Please accept the present that was brought to you, for God has been gracious to me and I have all I need." And because Jacob insisted, Esau accepted it.
12 에서가 이르되 우리가 떠나자 내가 너와 동행하리라
12 Then Esau said, "Let us be on our way; I`ll accompany you."
13 야곱이 그에게 이르되 내 주도 아시거니와 자식들은 연약하고 내게 있는 양 떼와 소가 새끼를 데리고 있은즉 하루만 지나치게 몰면 모든 떼가 죽으리니
13 But Jacob said to him, "My lord knows that the children are tender and that I must care for the ewes and cows that are nursing their young. If they are driven hard just one day, all the animals will die.
14 청하건대 내 주는 종보다 앞서 가소서 나는 앞에 가는 가축과 자식들의 걸음대로 천천히 인도하여 세일로 가서 내 주께 나아가리이다
14 So let my lord go on ahead of his servant, while I move along slowly at the pace of the droves before me and that of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir."
15 에서가 이르되 내가 내 종 몇 사람을 네게 머물게 하리라 야곱이 이르되 어찌하여 그리하리이까 나로 내 주께 은혜를 얻게 하소서 하매
15 Esau said, "Then let me leave some of my men with you." "But why do that?" Jacob asked. "Just let me find favor in the eyes of my lord."
16 이 날에 에서는 세일로 돌아가고
16 So that day Esau started on his way back to Seir.
17 야곱은 숙곳에 이르러 자기를 위하여 집을 짓고 그의 가축을 위하여 우릿간을 지었으므로 그 땅 이름을 숙곳이라 부르더라
17 Jacob, however, went to Succoth, where he built a place for himself and made shelters for his livestock. That is why the place is called Succoth.
18 야곱이 밧단아람에서부터 평안히 가나안 땅 세겜 성읍에 이르러 그 성읍 앞에 장막을 치고
18 After Jacob came from Paddan Aram, he arrived safely at the city of Shechem in Canaan and camped within sight of the city.
19 그가 장막을 친 밭을 세겜의 아버지 하몰의 아들들의 손에서 백 크시타에 샀으며
19 For a hundred pieces of silver, he bought from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, the plot of ground where he pitched his tent.
20 거기에 제단을 쌓고 그 이름을 엘엘로헤이스라엘이라 불렀더라
20 There he set up an altar and called it El Elohe Israel.시편 (Psalms)
21
1 여호와여 왕이 주의 힘으로 말미암아 기뻐하며 주의 구원으로 말미암아 크게 즐거워하리이다
1 O LORD, the king rejoices in your strength. How great is his joy in the victories you give!
2 그의 마음의 소원을 들어 주셨으며 그의 입술의 요구를 거절하지 아니하셨나이다 (셀라)
2 You have granted him the desire of his heart and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah
3 주의 아름다운 복으로 그를 영접하시고 순금 관을 그의 머리에 씌우셨나이다
3 You welcomed him with rich blessings and placed a crown of pure gold on his head.
4 그가 생명을 구하매 주께서 그에게 주셨으니 곧 영원한 장수로소이다
4 He asked you for life, and you gave it to him-- length of days, for ever and ever.
5 주의 구원이 그의 영광을 크게 하시고 존귀와 위엄을 그에게 입히시나이다
5 Through the victories you gave, his glory is great; you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.
6 그가 영원토록 지극한 복을 받게 하시며 주 앞에서 기쁘고 즐겁게 하시나이다
6 Surely you have granted him eternal blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence.
7 왕이 여호와를 의지하오니 지존하신 이의 인자함으로 흔들리지 아니하리이다
7 For the king trusts in the LORD; through the unfailing love of the Most High he will not be shaken.
8 왕의 손이 왕의 모든 원수들을 찾아냄이여 왕의 오른손이 왕을 미워하는 자들을 찾아내리로다
8 Your hand will lay hold on all your enemies; your right hand will seize your foes.
9 왕이 노하실 때에 그들을 풀무불 같게 할 것이라 여호와께서 진노하사 그들을 삼키시리니 불이 그들을 소멸하리로다
9 At the time of your appearing you will make them like a fiery furnace. In his wrath the LORD will swallow them up, and his fire will consume them.
10 왕이 그들의 후손을 땅에서 멸함이여 그들의 자손을 사람 중에서 끊으리로다
10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth, their posterity from mankind.
11 비록 그들이 왕을 해하려 하여 음모를 꾸몄으나 이루지 못하도다
11 Though they plot evil against you and devise wicked schemes, they cannot succeed;
12 왕이 그들로 돌아서게 함이여 그들의 얼굴을 향하여 활시위를 당기리로다
12 for you will make them turn their backs when you aim at them with drawn bow.
13 여호와여 주의 능력으로 높임을 받으소서 우리가 주의 권능을 노래하고 찬송하게 하소서
13 Be exalted, O LORD, in your strength; we will sing and praise your might.
